The number of complications during pregnancy and childbirth grows
According to Ludmilla Kostkin, the vice-governor of St. Petersburg (social policy and health care), in recent years the number of complications during pregnancy and childbirth in St. Petersburg has grown from 45% to 70-80%.
The measures government in the sphere of health made have increased the total fertility rate (average number of births per woman) to 1,3. Nevertheless, for the simple reproduction of the population the total fertility rate has to require 2.15 (Frolova O.G., Il'icheva I.A., Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology. D. A. Otto, 2001).
This means that the population continues to decline, and the government regulation is not enough yet. Only funding on social programs to support mothers cannot solve all problems. Increase in the number of births in unfavorable environmental conditions leads to an increasing number of congenital disorders in children. Insufficient attention to this problem increases the huge number of personal tragedies.
Reducing the risk of congenital disorders in children can be achieved only via the broad public awareness of preventive measures in this field, including means that reduce the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth.
We need the program for women informing, which is comparable in scale to the efforts undertaken to clarify the need for vaccinations for children.
The ecological situation in the country cannot be quickly improved, but there are specific recommendations from the State Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology. D. O. Otto which advise how to reduce the influence of environmental factors on newborns and their health.
In particular, during the research conducted at the City Hospital (the Orel city) and the State Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology with the help of the Honored Scientist, Prof. N.G. Kosheleva, it was proved that the use of “Vitagmal” (RF patent number 2058786 “the mean for reducing the risk of congenital disorders in children”) can reduce the incidence of complications during pregnancy among residents of an environmentally distressed areas of the city to the level of or below the frequency of complications during pregnancy among residents of an environmentally safe area (Gavrilova, E. G., Kosheleva N.G., Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology. D. A. Otto, 2006).
“Vitagmal”, normalizing the adaptation and adaptive reactions in the period of gestation, reduces the adverse environmental effects on pregnant women, their fetuses and newborns.
